The French Press

The most common mistake is pressing too fast or too early. Patience unlocks the best flavor here.

Instructions

  1. 1

Add 30g of medium-coarse coffee to the empty carafe.

  2. 2

Pour 500g of boiling water (don't worry, you can't burn the beans).

  3. 3

Let it sit untouched for 4 minutes.

  4. 4

At 4:00, break the crust with a spoon. Most floating grounds will sink.

  5. 5

Scoop off the remaining foam/scum from the surface.

  6. 6

Put the lid on but DO NOT PRESS. Let it sit for 5 more minutes. This lets fine particles settle.

  7. 7

Pour gently through the metal mesh. Stop before the sludge comes out.
